Our land is rooted in legend, and this is not a figure of speech.
It is nestled between Cape Palinuro, the last dwelling of Aeneas' helmsman, and Paestum, the place where the best-preserved temples in all of Magna Graecia are located, not far from the islet of Licosa and the promontory of the same name where, according to Homer, lived a siren who was able to bewitch Ulysses.
You are just starting to understand the magic of Cilento.
But perhaps you are more interested in the over 100 kilometres of coastline bathed by one of the clearest seas in Italy:
starting from the splendid coast of Castellabate, right where La Casa Sul Corso is located, in whose territory we find Licosa, the finest symbol of a stretch of coast so beautiful and precious that it is entirely enclosed within a Marine Protected Area.
Heading south, we immediately come across one of the most evocative stretches of coastline in the entire region, Ripe Rosse, where falcons nest on the sea, passing the splendid Acciaroli, we pass Velia, home to an archaeological area of the highest historical and cultural value, and arrive at Camerota and Palinuro, with their thousands of caves that rival those of Capri.
Cilento is not just about the sea. Here, you can find some of the highest peaks in Campania, destinations for nature lovers and trekking enthusiasts from all over the world:
between Monte Cervati (1899 m), Monte Stella (1171 m) and Monte Gelbison (1705 m), you can experience the rarefied air of real mountains.
And if the high-altitude walks get your hunger going, you will have the chance to taste something truly unique:
Cilento is, in fact, universally recognised as the home of the Mediterranean diet and is the place of origin of several excellent products, such as white fig and extra virgin olive oil, and Felitto's fusilli and menaica anchovies. Let's not forget that this is where you can sample the most widely appreciated cheese in the world, Campana buffalo mozzarella, and if you wish, you can also enjoy excellent wines, such as the local Fiano or Aglianico.
